Am I alone or is there anyone else out there whose good eating habits went out the window beginning around Thanksgiving time? The nearly five weeks of holiday season can be brutal in terms of the naughty food temptations. And it’s tradition, right? Heavier eating is expected during the holiday season. And of course, there are a LOT more sweets. And it doesn’t help that sugar depresses the immune system. It raises the insulin level, which inhibits the release of growth hormones, which in turn depresses the immune system.

So, is it any wonder that so many people get sick this time of year. Unhealthy foods, more time indoors with recycled air and the extra energy the body takes to stay warm, at least in some geographic regions. (In Sarasota today, it’s 66 degress with winds gusting up to 18 mph. That feels cold to my acclimatized self. But last week in Boston, I got chilled to the bone).
I’ve been feeling “under the weather” since my Boston trip. So, I’m going to do something about it. Instead of continuing to submit to crazy holiday eating habits, I’m going to start juice feasting today. I juice feasted exclusively for 60 days starting back in March of this year. I felt fantastic & looked the best I had since I started college. And I’m 43 now. Who would have thought that it was possible to turn the hands of time back so far? The best news was that large cysts I’d had in my chest for more than 20 years almost completely disappeared. Here’s a photo of me celebrating Cinco de Mayo with green juice on Sarasota’s beautiful Lido Beach on my 50th day on juice.
I want to feel that good again. Not sure whether I’ll do 100% juice all the time, or just mostly juice. But the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference kicked this off with their Challenge of a water fast for 24-hours. That’s 5 C’s! I can do this! In honor of the 5 C’s, my first juice will be Cucumber, Cabbage, Collards, Carrots & Celery. Sounds yummy! And I feel so fortunate to have a great resource in the very knowledgeable juice feasting couple, David & Katrina Rainoshek:
On my way to the Farmer’s Market to stock up on fresh, organic & locally-grown produce. Hope to find an abundance of greens to juice. So alkalizing.
To your radiant health!
